Had a lot of fun playing around with an excess of Victoria Plums in the garden.

The shots are part of an instagram challenge to use chiaroscuro style lighting – the use of strong light and dark shadows – to create distinct contrast and 3D form. It’s my favourite type of lighting for the strong sense of drama it creates… and because I so admire to work of artists who used it a lot such as Leonardo da Vinci, Caravaggio and Rembrandt. The plums in a basket was inspired by the painter Fede Galiza’s Wicker Basket with peaches, and flowers

The challenge, #chiaroscuroinspired was run by @twiggstudios and @boxofspice. Check out this hashtag and these photographers’ feeds for some truly inspiring images
